San Diego...

So this is basically going to be a travelog of our trip to San Diego, mostly for the grandparents' benefit so skip my next few posts if you're not interested. No pictures till we get home cause I have no way of uploading them...sorry.

We arrived in San Diego yesterday about 4:30pm and went straight to get our smokin' awesome rental car. (OK, so it's a compact Chevy Cobalt but it's new and gets the job done when you have a little family like ours). And thanks to our awesome friends, the Loves, we have this amazing GPS thingamajig that tells us exactly where to go every few miles. No need for a map or a nagging back seat driver (me). If only they had these on the Amazing Race...

My first impression was...HOLY GREEN. The grass was green, there are so many trees and flowers in bloom everywhere. So different than Colorado right now. Anyway...we went to find our hotel and unloaded all the bags and went for dinner and found a hole in the wall pizza joint that was YUM.

Afterwards we decided to go check out the temple at night. It's just so dramatic and striking right there off the freeway. We got out and the boys loved running around and looking at the "castle."

Then we were off to see the hospital in La Mesa where Zack was born. We took him right up to the door where you enter the Women's Health building and where we were instructed to sign in with fake names when we saw him for the first time (Stockton and Malone were the names...shocking I know). We showed him the hall we went down to see Lacey and where Robb gave her a blessing. We showed him where the NICU was where he stayed for 4 days. He seemed rather interested and it was kind of fun to share it with him...then off to the hotel and bed.

Today we tackled Legoland. The weather was mid 60's with a little breeze and was great. The boys loved almost all of it. They're not really into roller coasters but we did get them both on one by the end of the day. They loved building the lego cars and racing them. One loved the 3-D Lego movie, one did not...I'm sure you can guess which. All the other car and boat and safari and fairytale rides were a big hit. It really is a perfect place for their ages and other than the $50 lunch (seriously...4 burgers and drinks) it was a blast.

Afterward we grabbed some dinner and headed over to the beach in Carlsbad while the sun went down. There were a bunch (herd? school? gaggle?) of dolphins a couple hundred feet off shore that were jumping and playing like crazy...so cool. The boys were both a little tentative of the water at first but that didn't last long. Bryce was into climbing on the rocks and finding shells and Zack played keep away with the breaking waves for about 45 minutes (which he eventually lost BIGTIME...he rode all the way back to the hotel in his skivvies cause everything else was...well...a little moist. But there were many smiles and no tears so it was all good). After showers to de-sand them and a quick game of Bionicle (the Legoland purchase at the gift shop), Bryce is now konked out and Zack is playing an enthralling game of golf on my cell phone. Tomorrow will be Sea World...more to come.
