Day 4

The day started off at sacrament meeting. We went to the Asoke English Ward which had about 200 people there. The chapel and overflow were full. It's basically for any member that doesn't speak Thai so there are a lot of people of different nationalities who work in Bangkok and at least speak a little English.

Afterwards we went to the Jim Thompson House. He was an American architect/entrepeneur who came to Thailand in the 1940's and made it his home. He built this amazing Thai house with beautiful gardens right on one of the canals that goes through Bangkok. He took brightly colored silk back to the states in the mid 1900's which started the silk trade between the two countries so Thailand LOVES him. He was also an art collector and has asian pieces from the mid 8th century until the 1900's. He mysteriously disappeared on a trip to Malaysia but they eventually made his house into an amazing museum. It was very beautiful and interesting.

We then went to the World Market in Chatachuk Park. I can't even express to you how huge it was. Vendors selling everything and anything. It probaby took up 5 football fields and there were thousands of people.

Then we headed off to the Grand Palace which is where the king used to live. The whole complex was quite impressive: temples, shrines, etc. I mean once you get past the whole idolatry thing, it's all pretty beautiful.

After a long day of walking which led to sore feet and legs and hips, we totally splurged and went back to our hotel to the Grande Spa and got a couple's full body massage for an hour. It was HEAVEN! Happy Anniversary to us!
