We took the kids down midafternoon and hit Red Robin for dinner. Afterward, we headed over to the Air Force Academy just to walk around but most everything was closed at 5pm for tours so we missed out on that. But, the kids liked walking around and looking at the planes and the funky church.
Yes, there was a storm heading in which proved to create a very cool picture.
The gymnastics meet was down in one of the cadet gyms. I was totally used to gymnastics meets in the big Marriott Center or what you see on TV in the big arenas. This meet was in a small gym, about the size of the gyms at BYU where you play intramural hoops. So it was very small and we sat down right on the first bleacher. We were right on the floor and next to the action which was cool. When they did floor, they did all their flips and landed literally 6 feet from us.
They were competing against University of Washington and they were very obviously not as good. Air Force is GOOD. It felt like Olympic level stuff. Awesome tricks, super muscled athletes, lots of energy, chants, team support. It was really fun to watch.
Yep, Avery showing off her splits skills in front of the whole crowd. LOL...this is how close we were.
University of Washington didn't do much on high bar. They kind of just spun around the bar and would switch their hands. Air Force did awesome and huge release moves and amazing dismounts.
And one of my favorite pics of the evening. Cracked me up.
